Week 6 Shopping List

You made it! All the way to the end!

We go a little nuts this week with the chicken dishes. I’ve been trying to keep the meat down to about a pound a week, but in between the Chicken Pot Pie, the Chicken Chili, and the Broccoli Chicken Casserole, we’ll cook up 2 pounds of chicken. You could reduce the chicken in the chili to 8 ounces instead of 16, but it is 8 servings so I thought it was worth the splurge.

This being the last week, I went a little nuts on splurging. No pasta, rice, or potato dishes this week means that we’re making some more expensive things. The Broccoli Chicken Casserole needs stuffing ($1.00) and broccoli cheese soup ($1.25) and the chicken pot pie needs a pie crust ($2.59 for a box of two). I also got a bell pepper for the chili ($1.00 for a single pepper, which felt really expensive). You could cut that out if you wanted to make the chili a little cheaper.

I found the ground turkey at $1.99 on a wild sale so I went ahead and got it. I thought about using that in my chili, but it’s normally over $4.00 so it didn’t seem fair to put it in. But it will freeze and it shows that it’s helpful if you can keep a little bit of room in the budget for these kinds of sales.
